Tequila, Dia Seis

NOTES FROM THE FIELD: From Volcano Climbing to a Hacienda Stay. This morning Zack, Jeff and I wanted to attempt to drive to the top of the Tequila VolcanoVolcán Tequila. We had to be back to pick up Jodi and Laura by 11a.m. to make it to an appointment, so we thought we had enough time leaving around 9:15. I don’t even think we made it half way up before we checked the clock and realised we had to make our way back down. The roads were cobble stone, narrow and a bit nerve wracking, especially when Zack would try to miss the huge pot holes.

Hacienda el Carmen

After we finished at our first appointment, Hotel Teuchitlán, we drove over to Hacienda el Carmen and I never wanted to leave. There was a security guard at the gate who would open it for anyone with a reason to be there. We travelled up the rock driveway, the spa/gym was directly in front of us and the main hacienda to our left. The main building was beautifully covered in vines and flowers and designed in traditional Mexican style.

The reception area provided moist eucalyptus towels, fruit and refreshments. At first the team was only there to follow-up on the assessment Jodi and Laura had done a couple days before, but once we met the owner, Monica, and she suggested we stay the night in order to do our job completely, we drove all the way back to Tequila then all the way back to stay the night at Hacienda el Carmen.

Our rooms smelled amazing, the view of the mountains was incredible and the fact that I could stroll around my room in the slippers and robe provided with a glass of the chilled wine they left in my room was the perfect beginning to our stay.

Being our last night all together as a team, the group had dinner and later recapped on everything of the week. From the hilarious stories, like Jeff going to the wrong car after the train passed by, to the laughs of our relief that we wouldn’t be waking up to loud firecrackers the next morning.
